Managed IT Services FAQ

What managed IT is, what it costs, how support works and what BC businesses need to know, answered plainly.

Common Questions From Surrey Businesses

What are managed IT services?

Managed IT services means handing day-to-day responsibility for your technology to an outside team for a fixed monthly fee. Instead of calling someone when things break, the provider monitors, maintains and secures your systems continuously, and runs the help desk your staff call for support.

For a Surrey business that typically covers computers and servers, Microsoft 365, the network, backups and cybersecurity.

What do managed IT services include?

A typical plan includes help desk support, remote and onsite fixes, 24/7 monitoring, patching and updates, antivirus and endpoint detection, Microsoft 365 administration, backups, network management and regular reviews. Higher plans add security training, compliance documentation and strategy (vCIO) meetings. See all services.

What are the different types of IT services?

The main types are managed IT (ongoing support for a monthly fee), break-fix (pay by the hour when something breaks), co-managed IT (support alongside an in-house IT person), project work (moves, migrations, new networks) and consulting (assessments, roadmaps, virtual CIO). Most businesses with more than a few staff get better value and fewer outages from managed IT.

How much do managed IT services cost in Surrey?

Most Surrey businesses pay between $95 and $250 per user per month, depending on the level of service. A 20-person office on a mid-level plan usually lands around $2,800–$3,900 a month. One-time onboarding is typically about one month’s fee. See the full cost guide.

Do you only work in Surrey?

Surrey is home, from City Centre and Guildford to Newton, Cloverdale and South Surrey, but we support businesses across the Lower Mainland, including Delta, White Rock, Langley, New Westminster, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Richmond and Vancouver. See all service areas.

How quickly do you respond?

Response targets are written into your agreement by priority. A common structure is: critical issues that stop the business are picked up within an hour during business hours, high-priority issues the same day, and routine requests within one business day. Most calls are answered and fixed while the person is still on the line.

Do we have to sign a long contract?

You’ll see the term and the notice period in writing before you sign anything. We would rather keep a client because the service is good than because a contract says so.

Do you work with businesses that already have an IT person?

Yes. Co-managed IT supports your in-house person with help desk overflow, security tools, projects and holiday cover. How co-managed IT works.

Is my business required to report a data breach in BC?

BC’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) requires private organizations to protect personal information with reasonable security, but it does not currently require you to report a breach. BC’s privacy commissioner encourages voluntary reporting, and businesses covered by the federal PIPEDA must report breaches that create a real risk of significant harm. Read the BC privacy and cybersecurity guide.

Windows 10 is no longer supported. What should we do?

Microsoft ended regular Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025, so those computers no longer get standard security updates. We check which machines can upgrade to Windows 11, replace the ones that can’t on a planned schedule, and keep the business running while we do it.

Do you fix home computers?

No. We support businesses only, which is why our technicians know business systems such as Microsoft 365, servers, firewalls and line-of-business software inside out.
